Hey Mam, Dad, Matt and Dave!!
Well today was a lot more fun!! Africa is amazing I feel that it is the best place but also the worst place in the world! It’s the best with all the amazing animals we saw like giraffes, zebra’s, monkeys and amazing birds! And we only saw them from a distance and they were still amazing! It’s the worst though because, we drove through shanty towns on our safari truck and it was devastating, I felt like crying! All the children waved at us and looked so happy even though we were only driving through. It was heartbreaking to see how little they have but how happy they seemed! We arrived at where we are camping and put up our tents…fun! Hehe and we went to Elsamere and had cakes and saw monkeys!! Now I’m just sat waiting for dinner, the beautiful Lake Naivarsha in front of me! Its amazing! I’m missing you all a lot right now! Off on a walk tomorrow instead of a bike safari! Hehe should be fun!
I’ll message again when I can...but just to let you all know I’m fine, missing you all but it’s great here!
Love you all lots and lots!

Jambo Middlesbrough people! (and Mum and Dad in Norway) yesterday and today sort of merged into one to be honest lol the flight went ok and arriving in Kenya was the scariest thing ever! It was so different to any other airport I’ve been in, it was quite big but all of the souvenir and duty free shops sold African merchandise (obviously) and it was all really, well different. We slept over in a dormitory in Nairobi instead of camping because it was really dark when we arrived (I now know why they wouldn’t let us put them up in the dark after Gemma Davies and I had a disaster today with our tent!) Anyway yesterday was mainly travelling and sleeping, when we arrived in Kenya everyone was really welcoming and we had cups of tea which was great. Today has been just the same with more tea at Elsamere and an interesting drive through Nairobi past the slums etc. That was a real eye opener, it was exactly like those charity appeal adverts but on a much larger scale, it seemed like every 5minutes there was another set of slums, another set of shops and another set of poverty stricken people. (I actually sound like a charity advert now). But it was so lovely because everyone was waving at us as we drived passed in our mega truck (it’s mint). Anyway our campsite is amazing at Lake Naivasha. There’s loads of exotic birds, colobus monkeys, and hippos! We’re currently having a competition to see who’s going to see the first one lol, Will has already won the Zebra competition. It was weird this morning because it was so cold! There was a thick cloud covering the local area which was a shock but this afternoon it was really hot and sunny, bring on the good weather!

Oh my gosh, Africa is absolutely amazing! Weather isn’t what I expected though, it’s a little cold but when you just look around you, then you tend to forget about the coldness. We drove 2 hours through Africa after breakfast (we actually got to sleep in a real bed last night because it was too late to set up our tents!) the view from the truck is amazing, even though it was foggy, words really can’t describe what its like here. I bet you’re jealousJ. I got to try out my Swahili words today when we stopped off at a market, but the people will not give up in trying to sell you there things! But seeing the children walk around with no shoes on and just being so close to their little brother or sister, its heartbreaking yet amazing seeing them like they are, just getting on with their everyday lives, no matter how difficult things must be for them.
Hey mum, Hey Andy!
Just a quick message to tell you how I’m getting on. Arrived at Nairobi late last night where we stayed in ‘the camp sight’ (that’s all the road direction said) and had a complete opposite style of class compared to the hotel in Brussels! – The shower in my room didn’t even work. When you think it can’t get any worse we have our first night in a tent tonight, looking forward to that one. At least there are proper toilets here and we’ll see how the showers work later on.
Done a little bit of driving in the truck today, and met the cook and guide. They seem really nice so I think we will have a good time with them. Earlier today we stopped of near a few stalls and as soon as we got of the truck they were straight over to us, it was the same at the airport last night and it was actually pretty scary to be honest. When we stopped of I asked to go to the toilet so I was shown to it and it was in a wooden hut – because of that I actually expected a ‘toilet’ I was quite shocked to see a ‘hole in the ground’ – Nice!
The reality of the fact that we are actually in Africa has finally started to hit most of us today, we have seen our first giraffes, zebra and colobus (there some kind of monkey’s by the way) and as I type I’m sat with the view of lake Naivasha and the sound of singing birds in my ears. Had our first bit of sunshine today but other than that we have been pretty wrapped up. Hope it comes back tomorrow!
Anyway this was only meant to be a quick message so I best be going now I need to sort myself out before tea!!
Love you both lots and give my love to everybody else!

The night seemed to last forever but I still feel tired! Breakfast was similar to full English but the weather is really misty and murky. Because of this, we could not see the rift valley very clearly, it’s a good job we’re seeing it many times again! I saw a sign that said “home for abandoned babies” and can’t imagine being so poor, that I had to give my baby away. The people over here have so little yet they are so cheery. The safari truck is nice and so is lake Naivasha – haven’t seen any hippos yet though! We saw monkeys at Elsamere though and had gorgeous cake! Other people spotted giraffes and zebras but I missed the zebras and only saw the giraffes from a distance. However, there’s still plenty of time! Feeling a bit homesick but I’ll see you all soon!

Today was our full day in Africa!!! We drove from the campsite in the morning after meeting Georgia and Timo, our Guide and Driver, we drove through lost of little towns and saw a lot of people. Lots of people waved at us which was great and saw some really run down houses and places which really made me realise we were actually here!!! We got tot the campsite wMhich at the side of Lake Naivasha, it is gorgeous and we put up our tents. We had some dinner and then set of to Elsamere which is where Joy Anderson lived. It was great we watched a film and then sat in the gardens having afternoon tea. We saw monkeys!!!! I took loads of pictures which it a bit obvious!!!
Now back at site, about to have tea have to go!!! So long for now and talk to you all tomorrow!!
